A landing page is a specific web page where visitors “land” after clicking on an ad, email, or search result, with a single, clear conversion goal.
The difference from a homepage
A general homepage attempts to cater to multiple target audiences and messages at the same time. A landing page does exactly the opposite: it’s entirely focused on a single action—a request for a quote, a download, or a purchase—without any distracting navigation or competing messages that divert the visitor’s attention from the goal.
The relevance triangle: ad, keyword, landing page
The extent to which ads, keywords, and landing page How they fit together directly determines the quality score at Google Ads, and thus the advertising costs. An ad that links to the general homepage instead of a specific, relevant landing page, almost always performs worse.
Characteristics of a strong landing page
- One clear call to action, with no competing options.
- A message that directly relates to the ad or search query that brought the visitor to the page.
- Trust factors: reviews, certifications, concrete results.
- Minimal distractions, no unnecessary menu items or external links.
