Long-tail keywords These are specific, multi-word search queries with lower search volume but higher purchase intent and less competition than broad search terms.

Why the tip of the tail is so much more valuable

The most popular search term in an industry also attracts the strongest competitors. Long-tail keywords, such as “local SEO ”Rotterdam office“ instead of "seo”, are searched for by people who are already further along in their decision-making process. They are easier to rank for and generate more qualified traffic.

Long Tail and the 80/20 Rule

Research on search behavior consistently shows that the vast majority of all search queries consist of long-tail variations: not the ten or twenty most popular search terms, but the long tail of thousands of specific variations. Those who focus solely on the most obvious main terms miss out on the majority of search traffic.

Long-tail in Practice

Long-tail keywords are featured in blog posts, FAQ sections, and in-depth product pages. They form the foundation of a content strategy that builds organic traffic without having to compete directly with established authorities on broad keywords.
