Anchor text is the clickable, visible text of a hyperlink.
Why Anchor Text Provides Context
Anchor text tells both users and search engines where a link leads, even before it is clicked. “Click here” provides almost no context; “our services for local SEO”immediately tells you what the destination is about.".
A varied anchor text profile looks natural
A healthy backlink profile includes a mix of anchor text types: the brand name, exact keywords, generic terms (“read more,” “this page”), and the bare URL. This natural variation occurs spontaneously when different people link to a website organically.
When Anchor Text Becomes a Risk
A backlink profile consisting predominantly of exactly the same keyword anchor text across many different domains is a well-known indicator of manipulative, purchased link building, and may be penalized by Google’s spam detection system instead of being rewarded.
